I remember returning from my honeymoon and my now ex wife moving into our new apartment. I left for work Monday morning and returned at 6pm and nothing had been done. Not a box unpacked, load of laundry run, anything cooked or cleaned... I calmly asked what she did all day and she said she needed to adjust. We had spent 12 days in Maui and had returned on Friday so we had been home for several days. We spent 90 minutes unpacking together that night. The next morning I had a short checklist of things that needed to be done in order for me to do the big items when I got home. She cried. Her best friend told her I was a controlling asshole for giving her a list of things to do. I knew on that day things were not going to work but I was young and dumb and wasted 16 years trying to make it work.

She though existing was enough. Cooking twice a month was enough. Having sex when I was emotionally pulling away or upset with her was enough, etc. Just her being her and existing was supposed to be enough for me to want to move mountains to please her. Real life, post divorce, has been beyond humbling for her. She has begged to come back monthly for over 2 years.
