No one gives a fuck when a guy loses his job and can't pay his child support and is put in jail because he can't pay. Shit, maybe she should be put in jail for leaving a critical job in time of national emergency.

"Without the proper PPE" - that changes things. She didn't get the equipment needed to do her job properly so she walked out. Imagine you were a soldier and they wanted you to go to war without ammunition. You'd walk away too.

There's a phrase I have used too often myself: "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part" Something I have been asking myself ever since this started: Why doesn't every hospital have a basement room stuffed full of supplies for exactly these kinds of situations? Or a nationwide stock for emergencies?

Looking at my own country, last week it was discovered that my government destroyed 6 million breathing masks because they were expired. They had stocked these for when SARS hit a few years ago. Replacing the stockpile was deemed "too expensive" by our minister of health.

So do I really blame this nurse for walking out? Not really. BTW: Our military is low on bullets too, I hope I don't get drafted.

The expectation that someone signed up to work in extreme conditions and without proper equipment is grossly inaccurate. I never did. As someone who holds an RN license (and is male) and knows how poor nurses, both female and male RNs are treated and expected to put their own health or wellness aside because of the bad choices made by others who have power and will suffer no repercussions, I applaud someone standing up and refusing to be virus-fodder. No one in the industry signed up to die. It's a job, just a job. Nurses aren't slaves, are not waiters, and are not here to save a sorry ass because of xxxxx only to get sick, spread it unnecessarily, or sicken and kill family, or die themselves. Cops have guns, riot gear, and do retreat from situations that they are losing. No PPE is like a cop being sent to a riot with a jelly dildo!
