What do we actually know about men's clothing and its sexual impact on women?

I hope not to sound like an opinionated grouch, but I find most clothing advice offered to men very suspect. I am of course open to education.

The errors I see are:

  • Imposing a male perspective. A male's subjective reaction to male clothing is irrelevant here. If you start wearing pants with one long leg and one short leg, you'll look like an idiot to me. But if it excites women, that's what we need to know.

  • Confusing female aesthetics with female sexual stimulus. They may be related, but I question whether an outfit that "looks good" to a woman makes her any more sexually aroused. In fact I suspect that a "good looking" outfit may subtly send feminine cues.

  • Thinking that expensive designer labels or men's magazines have some inherent value. The clothing and retail industries have salivated for years over the prospect of getting men to spend on clothing like women do.

  • Allowing the entire feminine frame of adornment and luxury to contaminate your thinking. This can apply to the above errors. In other words, allowing a false symmetry between the sexes to smuggle in ideas that are only appropriate for female attire.
