Though at some point, we have all been duped. Some folks just need duping longer to get to the point they don't get duped.

That's fucked. But I see a positive, he was insecure and found himself. He didn't go on to get married to a dead bed relationship and then get divorce raped. He gained confidence to leave and not be kicked around anymore. He learnt the hard way, but he did learn

Seems like a lot of people are coming out as either asexual, bi, or in open relationships. I assume it's still a small percentage of the real-world population, but the sheer magnitude of them on the internet makes it look like it's a growing trend.
