We have some crazy policies in Sweden, but nothing like that. We pay like a small fee for the damage and the insurance company reimburses the rest. Though there are some odd drawn lines in the sand regarding reimbursement.
For example, my car gets broken into. They break my door and steal my stereo. I pay $150 for reimbursement for the door and another $150 for the stereo, since that is not part of the vehicle. Most of the time, it's not worth getting reimbursement for the stereo, since a newer one with more functions is cheaper than paying the fee.
