Don't get into the mindset of believing that being self centered makes you a bad person.

Being a nice guy or someone who constantly feels sorry for others gets you nowhere,its difficult to believe that but it's true.

You don't want to be a doormat or Mr. Nice,you just get used and taken advantage of by others.

It also doesn't mean you have to be a prick but don't be a doormat.

Do you go out of your way to hurt people? Of the answer of yes you may need to reconsider your action. If the answer is no then you're not a bad person. It will only feel that way at first of you're too accustomed to deriving validation from how other people think of you. But the truth is nobody every thinks about you as much as you do about them.

Most people are too selfish to actually care about you for more than a few minutes a day of you're important to them and even less if you're not. Nobody even hates you or loves you as much as you think they do.

Failure should only be a concern if you don't have backup plan. You need to have have a plan for how you're going to live alone, not deal with anybody else's shit, earn enough money for yourself, and be perfectly happy being alone. You get that down and you can focus on giving back to charity or having women in your life but not ruling it.
