I loved Italy, it's so beautiful in the small towns and countryside. It's so corrupt and inefficient though. It blew me away that they thought they could take on the British Empire in WW2, not to mention the USA down the road. What were they thinking?

This kind of place will always beat any modern big city in terms of quality of life. Old buildings made of stone like this will still last for centuries and millenias to come, all the modern constructions will be gone within a hundred years, many in 50 years.
