This put my last few years of personal development into words much better than I ever could. How does this concept relate to the idea of "ego death" users of hallucinogens report experiencing? I went through a very tough depression. And retrospectively it would seem like ego was one of the main culprits. Being overly concerned with what others expect of me and pretending to be something to fulfill that. This caused a mental backlash and a decent into pure nihilism. Coming out the other side I think I've found a better balance and shed the most toxic aspects of ego. I still deal with the nagging compulsion to be "famous" or "successful" but my self is better equipped to get down to business nowadays.
