In the US the Korean War is often referred to as the Forgotten War, many young Americans do not even know it happened.

I am not a fan of war but I never criticize soldiers. I do think the US should have mandatory military or civilian service for everyone but we are too lazy.

The disdain for old soldiers is unfortunately natural. Everyone believes, and forgive me - I believe particularly in East Asia - everyone believes another big war simply cannot happen, that we are too enlightened to let it come to that.

But once a population regularly scoffs at war, it means they’ve forgotten it. It’s no big deal because they can’t remember. Right now economies are still growing tepidly, but once they start to contract for prolonged periods and there is joblessness and unrest - you will see countries looking to blame someone else or expand their territorial resources. That’s when it happens. First slowly, painfully slowly, and then suddenly and all at once.

I believe most likely the next war will be in the South China Sea. It may only be a pointless island hopping war with many deaths to gain/lose islands back and forth in SCS. I do not believe any mainland nations will be invaded (korea, china, japan, australia, malaysia etc) - however Taiwan and HK could become flash points as well.

US media has 0 none nada coverage on China, CCP, One Belt One Road, etc. There is no East Asian coverage of any kind.

Would love to hear other’s opinions on these topics.

In the past in South Korean, men were given some credit towards a university degree when they served in the military. The feminists objected, and this credit was removed. I also read that pay is so poor that it doesn't cover the cost of equipment in the first year for the equipment that the soldier has to pay with his own money.

Soldiers of the today's Global West are serving the enemy. They may deserve pity if drafted involuntarily, they may deserve understanding if there were few alternatives to make a living available to them. But no respect to protectors of the system.
