They can be co-workers, relatives, friends. They bitch and moan and look for sympathy. It's usually women but there are men that do this too. Some of them think you have it good as if you have no struggles of your own, but they don't want to hear about any of your problems.
For example, I ran into a co-worker today who I used to work in the same department with. She asked how I was and I told her busy and she just kept bitching and moaning about her workload as if she were trying to one up me. She was bitching about a health issue and some other negative stuff. I spoke to a female acquaintance and told her I'm in an "on call rotation", which is nothing to brag about. She tells me she's the only on call person where she works as if it's a badge of honor.
