Consider this:

If anyone shames them for appearance, it's other women. But 99% of it is actually her thinking other women will shame her for it. Because she'd shame other women for it. But basically she understands that other women and is so terrified of them that she psychologically polices herself in that manner to avoid having to deal with the psychological hell they will unleash for deviating from the herd.
