A lot of people in the world today think, incorrectly, that the method to happiness/feeling good about oneself involves tearing other people down. Hence, they will leap on every opportunity to do so like starving hyenas.

These aren't people worth having in your life. In fact, when I come across people like this I have developed an inner thought of "Thanks for letting me know you aren't worth my time early. BYE!"

My father gave me a piece of advice that helps keep me centered when I have to deal with these types:

"I only have to deal with this asshole for a few seconds/minutes. That asshole has to deal with an asshole for the rest of their lives!"
