An akward date or misunderstood sexual encounter (Aziz Ansari comes to mind) can pretty much ruin a man's career and livelihood in this day and age. But you can lie about who your baby's daddy is, betray the man you're supposed to love and cherish and destroy his life... and you will STILL end up being paid for it, and the guy suffering for it.
If you cheat on your husband or partner or live-in boyfriend and force him to raise a child you know is not his, making him sign the birth certificate and having him hold his little bundle of joy, tears of joy on his face while you know it's all a cynical ploy for financial support... you belong in jail. Period.

1%? Try 30%.
We've known this since blood testing was invented. DNA testing has just confirmed it.

This. It was 10% and now it is 30%. When art is imitated by life we were not talking about a Jerry Springer episode.

Imagine if paternity tests were involuntary. That number would triple.

Judge will make you keep paying too for the "best interest of the child"

Paternity fraud should be illegal.
Actually, it should be illegal for women to have kids they can't afford. When men do it they go to jail, women should too.

Lol its closer to 30% and thats just what we have tested through DNA since not everyone gets tested unless there is reason in some form. So that is just a base line number (assuming DNA tests are 100% with current tech as its known that Chimeras can throw it off completely so there could be other errors).
So if we have 7 billion people on the planet and men make up half that, that means roughly 1 billion fathers have been cheated on and lied to about “their” children. Now it may be lower or higher in other nations but male and female nature remains a constant everywhere so its unlikely to be a great change in either direction from what we know now. I sure wish it was only 1% but the reality is that it is much much higher even if 30% ends up being too high from initial studies.
What interests me is if this is a recent phenomenon in history and has been growing because of increasing “gynocentricity” in society or if it has always been present just not capable of being exposed until now through dna tests. If it has always existed there is little that can be done other than to walk away from it and be conscious of it. If it is a more modern phenomenon we have to analyze why, how, and what caused this massive shift in order to address it. Controlling our own natures as both men and women is essential to being the best we can be, and when left uncheck or encouraged by societies it can lead to disaster.

Oh, but asking for proof or threatening to leave can be deemed "coercive control" and YOU are sent to prison.

It is between 10-30 % it was a stat made by laboratories that do DNA testing.

The one percent figure is taken from Maarten H.D. Larmuseau, Koen Matthijs, Tom Wenseleers, Cuckolded Fathers Rare in Human Populations, Trends in Ecology & Evolution, Volume 31, ISSUE 5, P327-329, May 01, 2016:

This is just an interview and the interesting quote is this:
Source [3] is Pagel, M. (2012) Wired for Culture – Origins of the Human, Social Mind, W.W. Norton.
Let's look at the two source [4] and [5] that claims the 1-2% figures. These are
[4] Anderson, K.G. (2006) How well does paternity confidence match actual paternity? Evidence from worldwide nonpaternity rates. Curr. Anthropol. 47, 513–520
sci-hub.tw/10.1086/504167
This is a meta-analysis (ie a survey of surveys) that finds that
The problem is the date of it. 2006 is way before widespread and affordable DNA testing, so we always run into the sample construction problem.
The other study is:
[5]. Wolf, M. et al. (2012) Estimating the prevalence of nonpaternity in Germany. Hum. Nat. 23, 208–217
sci-hub.tw/10.1007/s12110-012-9143-y
This article basically states that the sample for the previous claims based on DNA testing was not random (ie people who wanted to test their paternity are definitely more likely to indeed be cuckhold), which is a fair enough problem. But then the study goes on to test 971 children elligible for bone marrow. They state that
Well, it would be nice to see if the sample is indeed representative of all socioprofessional categories, because if not, it would mean that those seeking treatment are not representative.
An interesting study would be to find out results of Ancestry.com. The whole problem though is that there is no way they KNOW who is the declared father. They can only find out who is or not the biological father. I suspect the sample size would be in the thousands.
But you know what would be nice ? Make a DNA test mandatory for men to be declared the father. It would be easy: you want to be declared the father? OK, put your name here, give a swab. Baby's swab, and let's see. The percentage of rejection would tell you the truth.
Is someone afraid of the truth??
