You can NEVER "make" anyone happy. Trying to appease them by bribing them (e.g., with gifts, fawning over them, doing all the chores, etc.) just trains them to demand even more. As governments are well aware: If you "tax" (punish) something, you get less of it, if you "subsidize" (reward) it, you get more of it.

Why would you reward a misbehaving child by rewarding him/her? Women are children at heart, so their behavior is emotionally driven, but they do respond to incentives and disincentives. Just use them very carefully.
