I just wanted to rant. A bit of story about my room mates. My room mates are decent fellas but they have a tendency to be knights in shining armor for female friends. In the past, I used to think it was an honorable thing to do, but not anymore. Here's the scoop:

Room mate 1: He let his female friend of few years move in to our apartment, off the lease, because she wasn't planning on staying a whole year. Our Lease charges like 50$ and there's a bit of paperwork involved to transfer it to someone else mid year. So he's been paying rent on her behalf and she would pay him back. Out of nowhere, she packed her stuff and went back to her hometown abroad last month without any heads up and we haven't been able to contact her since. We're international students in the US. Guess what? She owes me like 100$ for utilities bills and owes him more than 1000$ in rent. Turns out she didn't pay him back on time and he didn't pressure her for it either. We're still in grad school, so this amount is like 40-50% of his total savings. We can't contact the girl after she ghosted us, so there's nothing to do except accept our losses. Oh and we had to clean up her junk stuff and throw it out as well.

Room mate 2: He's a really friendly and helpful guy, and obviously, he's getting taken advantage of, by his female friends and he's happy to let them. He offered to host his female friend for more than a month, rent free with free food, in our apartment, till her new lease starts in few weeks. They shared his room initially, but after our female room mate bailed, she has a bedroom to herself. This girl also keeps a bunch of boxes taking up 25% of our living room since summer, cos she moved out of her dorm last semester. Now is kinda the moving season before Fall semester starts and I know he's helped at least 2 female friends move all their stuff (who are not living with us), for nothing in return. Who does that! I honestly don't think he is getting anything in return except the "nice guy" stamp.

TL;DR; Room mates are extra generous and helpful to female friends and get nothing in return.
