The problem with your argument is that Google, YouTube, and others make far more revenue from ad revenue than they do from subscriptions. By deplatforming their political opponents, they are actually costing their investors. Further, the FANG big tech companies get a carve out from government that no other media source does; in theory, they are platforms only -- like the town square. Once they begin to deplatform those they disagree with, they become publishers, opening them to lawsuits. And, if all that isn't enough, Google has admitted they attempted to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. As an admitted liberal, I don't think you would be as cavalier in your attitude if Fox News, or other "right wing" media source had the power Google, and others, have.

I don't agree with regulating FANG, but going after them in an anti - trust investigation is the correct thing to do. Silicon Valley has been conspiring to distribute their brand of propaganda for a long time.

I got $5 that says market researchers have run the numbers, and feel that the products they advertise will make more money being shown to one type of audience than another. This is a multi-billion dollar industry here; they're not randomly pissing about hoping something will work.

And personally, I am against government subsidies for such things. Someone should establish some caselaw, no?

I think Fox news is pretty powerful, but you don't see me griping about Fox news, do you? They get to get their message out too. I don't agree with a lot of the spew out of Fox news, therefore, I just don't watch it.

If I had Venmo, or Cashapp, I'd have you send me the $5 now. You're wrong. Let me give you two high profile examples: Chik-fil-a, and Dick's Sporting Goods. I could also throw the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars franchises in for good measure. In the case of Chik-fil-a, the owner tweeted about believing that the institution of marriage should only be between a man and a woman. The left lost their collective minds and tried to "boycott" them out of existence. In response, those on the right -- with little to no formal organization -- ran a counter "buycott" which garnered Chik-fil-a with their largest one day sales in company history. Chik-fil-a remains one of the more profitable fast food chains, even though the left tries to keep them out of the market. In the case of Dick's, they sided with the gun control crowd and very publicly announced discontinuing the sale of popular semi-automatic rifles that the gun control crowd thinks are far too scary. Dick's revenues have been down, and below expectations since then. They even acknowledged at a shareholders meeting their decision on guns adversely affected their revenue. With the popular super hero and Star Wars franchises, as they get more woke, the LESS revenue they bring in. Netflix, which has swung left in recent years, is bleeding subscribers. I could go on.

Further, in the talk radio industry, the left tried to counter right wing talk radio with a leftist talk network some years back. They failed in five years or so. Left wing talk radio has never been able to compete with right wing talk radio. Overtly left slanted products cannot compete one on one with right slanted products head to head. This has been proven time and again when the free market has been left alone to work its magic.

In the case of Big Tech, Sandberg, Zuckerberg, the Twitter dude (forget his name), and even Bezos have all mentioned that when these platforms started, they never expected those on the right to be savvy enough to use them. How wrong they were. Trump won, in part, because his campaign was masterful at using digital platforms (and even now, with Twitter) to get around the MSM and get his message out. When YouTube deplatforms Steven Crowder, yet leaves leftists who say far worse things up, it is obvious what they are doing. The right has shown themselves far more savvy with digital platforms than the leftists who started them.

Much like feminism, leftism cannot survive, or win an argument, by telling you what they stand for, because normal people would never vote for them. That is the reason Big Tech is doing what they do. The only way for leftism to win, is to silence all opposition.

Edit: And as to Fox News. Fox has BOTH sides on their opinion shows. It is not unusual to have a moderator, two lefties, and two on the right. They go out of their way to bring leftists on their network and debate them. CNN, MSNBC, and the MSM don't even come close. They have their "token conservatives" -- who are really moderates -- and have been known to cut the mikes of those they disagree with.

Edit #2: Oh, and Fox News destroys their left leaning cable news competitors in the ratings.

The point was, someone is running some figures, and determining what they want their marketing to be, and they feel they're making money at it, exactly the same way Fox news, et al, is running what advertising THEY feel will make money with THEIR audience; both are playing to their collective audiences.

As for your comments about Fox having "both sides" and MSNBC having "tokens", I'd say the exact thing, but opposite, about Fox. But hey, I ain't bitching about fox, am I? They have their audience, and places like Reddit have theirs. I certainly don't expect Fox to have me on to talk about the things I think are important; it wouldn't play with their audience, and they'd lose viewers, and money.

The right should expect the same thing in left-wing media.

But we've strayed far from the original point; you have your freedom of speech. You just don't have freedom of platform. And freedom of platform isn't enshrined in the constitution, last time I read it.
