Walk away. On many occasions, I get out of conversation just by saying, "excuse me for a moment" and then just walking away.

Also, get over the lying thing, it's cheap, simple, and if you do it right, it's not even a lie, just a misdirection.

Dress in whatever way delights you. You don't owe anyone information about your finances. If they're interested in your payroll and they're not your accountant then they need to get lost. Don't be shy to tell them.

Keep busy. Keep responses to questions down to a minimum. No need to explain yourself with anything. Eventually the message will be heard that you are not a host that will be infected.

Be nice however but dont give any indication that you're a friend or anything more than that.
