Im going through my apprenticeship now. There are a few women in the program and one was in my class. She's married to another woman and so before long it was a bit of a boys club again. The guys were respectful but there was soon talk of measurements down to the "C hair".

Compared to other woman in the program, my classmate was an allstar. A total anomaly.

Other classes with woman enrolled seemed a bit of a joke. During the Final day all classes are out doing a clean up in the yard. Cutting firewood. Organizing the shorts rack and picking nails. This was early spring and it was a rainy morning. There were a couple wahmen standing under the wood shed out of the rain with their fingers up their cooters, oblivious to the dirty looks from the men at work. They had their orbiters so what did they care. GYOW.

Aside from that , I felt, there was little issue with them being there. Although I've a few more classes to go.

My crew is tiny. There is my journeyman, his journeyman (semi-retired), myself and a part time labourer. An absolutley great crew! My journeyman said once (and I agree) that he's no problem with women being in the trades but he probably wouldn't hire one unless she was really well referenced. They aren't as physically capable and they can create unnecessary drama so it might not be a sound investment for his business.

Op, Trades are great! However choose something that resonates within you. Money is important but I've seen SO many tradesmen that absolutely hate their jobs because they didnt follow a passion.
