I'll hold a door open for anyone who is approaching, male or female, simply out of generic politeness.

I get thanked by men more often, on about a 3:1 ratio.

Usually I just open the door and let it close on its own. Who cares if the door closes on their face? Women do that to men time to time.

I hate when people hold doors open for me. I live a "no hurry" lifestyle, so when they hold doors for me (or stop to let me cross a road when I don't have a right of way, or hold an elevator door open when theres 3 others already on the floor I could use instead) since I'm not going to dash, it leads to them glaring at me with a "hurry the fuck up" look. I didn't want you to wait for me in the first place. Ugh.

I once closed the door mid-conversation with a women. She told me I was really 'rude'. What she didn't realise was I noticed that the door was not closing properly, and so I was checking and trying to fix it. Priorities.

Letting them get close & pass you will get you accused of wanting to check their bodies out when they pass. Unless they are Carrying something large I’ll speed up slightly and hold the door for a second... let go when it’s withi their reach then proceed on my way as if I’ve got some where to be

I used to work with an awesome guy, an alpha male but the type that would bring people together to get the work list done before the end of the work day. We’d get recognized a lot because of him. Twice a year go up on stage, kind of recognition. He got loaned out to a different department for a two weeks, they had lots of new staff and leadership thought he’d be great to get them to learn to work together from the start of the training.

At the next semi-annual meeting, he was the most awkward sap when it came going up and down the stairs behind female colleagues, some which he helped train. His name would be called, excitedly he jump up and head towards the stage. Another name would be called, if the girl sat closer, she do a slow walk up towards the stage forcing others to leave a huge gap or risk collision. Then he stare at his shoes, walking behind a female.

It turns out that during the instructor evaluation portions, forms were handed out at the end the orientation training: comments like the instructor stood too close and made too much eye contact were a few of the comments submitted and paper copies reviewed during his individual quarterly evaluations. *Note, we worked in noisy and narrow spaces

I have a very easy, very equal rule regarding doors. As I work in an office with a lot more people.

He (or she) whoever opens the door, shall go past first.

If I open the door, I'm going first. Caught a few (always whamen) trying to go forward when I open the door, only to have to step back as I simply walk forward and I'm no small dude. Got a few stinky looks for it, but as I'm consistent, they have nothing to pick on.

Wanna go first? Then open the fucking door yourself

I do the same thing. Just let them pass, I can get the door myself. My arms and legs still work same as theirs, so they can get the door for themselves.

They're strong and independent, they can do it.

If someone is literally right behind me I'll hold the door as I go in so it doesn't slam in their face, but I don't hold the door for anyone unless they are disabled. I don't want people holding the door for me and rushing me so I don't do it either. I was raised with the chivalrous 'hold the door for ladies' bullshit, but feminism ripped that out of me fairly quickly.

I open the door, walk through and give it a nudge so the momentum keeps it open till whoever is behind me is at the door. 50/50 % they catch the door and walk through it or it slams into their face. Up to them to decide what to do...

Same here.

Even better, at malls/shopping malls if I see a woman or a group of women coming from the opposite direction on the other side of the glass doors, I stop and let them open their own doors.

Once in a blue moon they realize what I did, and it's priceless so see their faces.
