Depends somewhat on which trade you are looking at in the USA

For trades like carpenter, mason, tile setter, roofer, sheetrock, flooring, you learn on the job, and start by being a laborer/unskilled, and work your way up as you go

Call your local trade union ask to talk to someone about their programs.

Check all the Union Locals. Most have apprenticeship positions. Here in NJ, in the Operating Engineers local, we are required to always have two apprentices in our building. After a 4 year apprenticeship, if there is a position available in the trade they choose, they are hired and become an A-rate mechanic and another apprenticeship position becomes available.

I didnt know you could finish tradeschool without having jobsite hours logged! I have to log 4 years of hours to complete mine. Also, here in new mexico, not only is EVERYONE hiring (just apply) but EVERYONE is working overtime due to worker shortage.

What kind of trade school? Most have career placement offices and if it's skilled labor there's a shortage across the board. We just hired two A&P students as apprentices so they've got a job before they've even graduated. Machinist coming out of school have multiple (4-7) offers in hand before graduation.

My plumber is considering hiring young men with zero exp and training them because the union and schools aren't keeping up with the older guys retiring.

First thing to do is figure out what you want to do. Then call some of the companies in that field, ask the owner or manager what they are looking for in new hires. Then ask them if you could job shadow someone in their org to decide if that's really what you want to do. If so, move forward with votech school or the union hall. You could probably get a company to hire you as a trainee for $11 or $12 an hour while you're going to school.
