Waste of money. Just because you raise the money doesn't mean Congress is required to use it for the wall. This is more political then an issue of actual money.

Regardless on your view of the politics involved, if this works, it brings up an interesting concept. Essentially, it's a volunteering tax. What if this takes off? Instead of people in D.C. supposedly representing us, we can designate what we want it to go to. I realize it won't replace the tax system altogether. I like the idea and it takes power away from politicians.... so, probably won't happen then.
