Legit. It's hard nowadays (compared to the 50's - 90's) to make a good living on 1 salary in a regular/simple wokring class job. In the previous generation (50's - 90's), they could buy a home, raise a few children, support (pay for) a stay at home mom, buy a new car, and save for retirement. Just on a regular blue color job.
Then it happened, that the competition on the labor market increased, due to:
* women started working, adding alot of new workers to the supply side of the labor market;
* globalisation (more international trading) where factories moved to low low wage countries;
* China opening up economically, basically adding 1 billion workers to the gloabal market.
So the competition (in the Western world) on the labor market is much taugher now, due to these factors.
I just heard a woman say, that a man isn't a real man if he can't provide for his children and stay at home mom with a nice lifestyle. Well, it's gonna be slim pickings for women whom think like that, because most men can't. It's just not possible anymore for the mayority of men. And what will happen then. All these women whom think like that will flock to the few/limited men that do have the financial possibility to provide all that. And these men get alot of offers. So alot of these men won't see a reason to settle down, because they can just spin plates. And then they will bitch about, how there are no "real men". The men in the past that did all this providing, only did it was the norm and probably necesairy to land a woman and/or have children. And it was nothing special back then to be the sole provider as a man. Nowadays, a man (below 40) that is or can be the sole provider (with a nice lifestyle) is probably top 20%.

I don't like this post.
Working 8 hours a day 5 days a week isn't an issue. Society hasn't magically changed into all of a sudden requiring people to work; you've always had to work to survive. If you lived 100 years ago you probably would have spent dawn till dusk working 6 days a week on the family farm. In terms of labor required to sustain yourself, life is easier now than it was in the past.
You seem to have some blue pills remaining in your worldview if you think that the minimum wage is too low, or that it should exist at all. If all you do is flip burgers or fold clothes then you don't deserve $15 an hour or whatever minimum wage. If you need more money then get a better job by performing more valuable work to society.
Really, the only thing in this that I agree with is that it's bad for women to always get custody of children in a divorce. The rest of it is a leftist's ignorance on economics and the real world.

Live to 30 with a tribe and close connections while living your daily life free from societial shackles.
Or live to 80 and be a miserable slave to (((globohomo))) overlords, geez idk.

"8 hours a day 5 days a week isn't an issue"
I am sorry dude, but knowing that our hunter gatherer ancestors had WAY more leaisure time compared to us. Especially considering that we are supposes to be technologically "advanced" it really makes me wonder wheter the average joe is actually progressing or not.
Our technology makes us work more, when it was supposed to make us work less.

The only reason you're even able to convey that sentiment to me is because you typed it into a device which allows instant communication across the entire Earth. Actually, that and the fact that you, your father, his father, etc didn't die of some now easily preventable disease is another reason you're able to type it. Anything beyond some backward tribe in Africa has moved beyond hunting/gathering and has received massive quality of life benefits because of it. Even thousands of years ago people moved beyond that by participating in agriculture. You have significantly more free time than anyone in any civilization worth living in from the past few thousand years. Your life isn't harder because you wake up in a warm bed to drive yourself in a motorized carriage to work a job inside an air-conditioned building to drive back home and then spend your several hours of free time by having an ice cold beer with your dinner that contains meat. Pretty much anyone that wasn't already living in modern times would kill to have the luxuries you enjoy at the cost of about a fourth of their week spent working a cushy, non-labor-intensive job.

"You have significantly more free time than anyone in any civilization worth living in from the past few thousand years."
Yeah thats literally not true, or rather not true for most people, if you wanna go back 100 years, up until the 90's really where places like America, where you could get a job rather easily and afford having a family, then yes you are correct.
But modern society is degrading into slavery.
"the only reason you're even able to convey that sentiment to me is because you typed it into a device which allows instant communication across the entire Earth. Actually, that and the fact that you, your father, his father, etc didn't die of some now easily preventable disease is another reason you're able to type it"
So i can type a message therefore life is good? what sort of nonsense is this, a short happy life is better then a long and pointless one. We are evolved for tribes not modern society.
"Anything beyond some backward tribe in Africa has moved beyond hunting/gathering and has received massive quality of life benefits because of it. "
If you measure quality of life, as in "muh iphone" then yes, but looking at it historically only the top of society ever did, the rest were slaves and would literally be better off living on a farm. same goes for now. The ideal age would be in the 1900 hundreds, as quality of life was good and community was and culture were strong.
Also the complete rejection of masculine lifestyle and learning, like to doing physical labour being looked down upon, forcing men that naturally are filled up with energy to sit in a chair for 8 hours a day at school or at work.
This sort of shit is what ruins society.
Its not it hasnt gotten better its that, its becoming worse.
I dont reject technology i reject what it is becoming or has become, where individuals are becoming slaves to massive corporations, and do nothing else then meaningless tasks just to make money and then spend money.
"Your life isn't harder because you wake up in a warm bed to drive yourself in a motorized carriage to work a job inside an air-conditioned building to drive back home and then spend your several hours of free time by having an ice cold beer with your dinner that contains meat"
I say its worse not easier, i would much prefer live in a coherent community and die at 30 then slave away 8 hours a day 6 days a week.

there are ways atound that.
i live in a van and only work part time. if your looking for minimalism anyone can do that

So you think that people living in ancient times spent less than 1/4th of their week working? 40 hours of a 168 hour week is slightly less than 24% of the week.
You're getting to use the best technology which has completely changed humanity for the better. Don't tell me your life is harder than those who didn't have modern medicine, air conditioning, access to most all the world's knowledge in your pocket, access to more entertainment then you could ever enjoy in your entire lifetime also in your pocket, access to regularly having meat in your diet, iced cream, etc, etc, etc, etc.
No, you're pissed that you actually have to work for a living like nearly everyone else that has ever existed. You're also under some delusion that food, shelter, etc magically presented itself to ancient people or that they had an easier time securing all of that than we do now.
I agree with this sentiment, but realize that people back then had to work too.
Does someone have a gun to your head? You spend as many hours at a desk job as you decide to. You're delusional to think that this is somehow outside of your own control.
It's not slavery if you can decide whether or not to work. You seem to have a lot of anti-free market propaganda still programmed into you. It's one thing to long for a simpler time, that's fine, but to blame free markets and progress for the degradation of life is delusion.
Believe me, you and I are kindred spirits when it comes to not liking modern work. I absolutely despise having the obligation of being at a certain place at a certain time in order to perform work I don't enjoy. I both don't like modern work and don't irrationally think that life was easier in the past because of it. You're realizing the flaws in the system but don't see the obvious solution which is not participating in it. If you don't want a 9 to 5 job then don't have one. Save up enough money to pay off all your debts, buy a van or motorcycle to live in/on, and just live on the outskirts of society. Scrape by via only buying what you absolutely need (gas money, foods you can't procure yourself, etc), and find some way to earn the money required for that on your own terms. All of that, or save up enough money to pay off your debts and enough to get the tools required to live out in the middle of nowhere Alaska to just live off the land. You're not required to be part of the system.
That's not how life expectancy works... The only reason the average age was so low in the past is because of how frequently people died at childbirth and as infants. Someone who lived to be 5 in the past and didn't die in some freak accident would usually live to what would today be considered a ripe old age.
You work a 48 hour week?
[–]Darkster20-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"So you think that people living in ancient times spent less than 1/4th of their week working? 40 hours of a 168 hour week is slightly less than 24% of the week."
Go ask any anthropologist about this, hunter gatherers had WAY more free time then we have. I dont think this, i know it.
"Does someone have a gun to your head?" "t's not slavery if you can decide whether or not to work"
Imagine being this brainwashed. If i dont do these things, the alternative is to die of hunger or live a life with so little money i might aswell be dead. Yes it is exactly like putting a gun to my head.
But its not slavery because i have the choice to not work and go homeless, noice. Its like putting a gun to my head and saying "Its not slavery because you choose to work instead of getting shot"
By your own logic slaves dont exist, because you cant actually force someone to work, "hurr durr blacks werent slaves because they could chose not to do work"
There is always a choice, but that istn how we define slavery. ask yourself if its fair and if the reward is fair, which it isnt in the modern world. Slave away to never have a family because woman will divorce rape you and dont get put in jail for "hate speech" or have transgenderism pushed by mega corporations on your kids.
"don't irrationally think that life was easier in the past because of it"
I didnt say it was easier, i say it was better, struggle is a part of life, just because you remove physical struggle doesnt mean anything, when you add psychological torture.
"You're not required to be part of the system."
So live in a isolated tundra psychologically torturing myself or be a slave to mega corporations?
Wow such great choice, clearly nothing wrong with these....
"but to blame free markets and progress for the degradation of life is delusion."
No its not, these mega corporation literally do social engineering to create the perfect sterile empty consumer. They ruin humanity. There is also no such thing as a "free market" as most businessess are run by a couple big guys and thats it. The end result of capitalism is always monopoly of a couple powerful entity's that will use that power to control the population. because they own the food supply.
Thats why this unregulated capitalism is nothing more but slavery to corporations, its anarcho-facism, "do as you please, if you dont do what i say i will make sure you starve to death"

Having a wife/children you have to play the neo liberal rat race. Without wife/children a man can opt out of it. Not having wife/children one is able to leave the plantation.
[–]ShotgunPumper0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't have a wife/children, so I didn't even consider those who do. I have, however, considered that perspective and what I'd do if I were in it. If I had a wife that were a bitch who made my life miserable then I'd probably be seriously considering just bailing. Buy a motorcycle outright, fix it up for long distance/large storage, load it with camping gear, and just hit the road. Maybe work for and spend cash, use a different name, somehow acquire a false license plate... Hell, I don't even have a wife or kids and I'm halfway considering doing that anyways. Maybe all of that's just wishful thinking.
the sad thing is, the economy is better then its ever been in decades. unemployment is at an all time low.
once orcasio cortez becomes president in 2024 america is going full communist.
