In the original black and white 1950's version of this movie, Michael Renney gave a great performance as an alien who was shot by the military while trying to bring peace to the earth. In the original story line, the alien was taken in as a boarder by a young widow and her son. In the remake, the young widow is a bright young scientist with a black step-son. Of course, this powerful woman is one of a handful of scientists chosen to cope with the alien presence.

Unfortunately most of the movie surrounds this strong, independent woman tending to and mentoring her young son. A full two-thirds of this movie is about the two of them. The son misses his Dad, but Mom is doing a GREAT JOB! The son, played by Will Smith's son, Jayden, has twice the screen time in the movie than Keanu Reeves. Together, the mom and son save the Earth! Ain't nothing a single mother can't do.

I mention all this because it is an insidious example of the social, feminist engineering with which Hollywood and the media are indoctrinating the populace. Oh, and of course in this movie, the Secretary of Defense is a hard-nosed look-alike for Hillary Clinton. Freaking mind control, people.
