My former boss tried to hire me at the new company she's working for.

She was "let go" late last summer, found a new place to work, and thinks all the wrong people are running the show at the new place. In the interviews, she listed several people who I'm supposed to clandestinely shadow: "I don't know what they do exactly, so I need you to find out, then tell me how we can replace them." The offer letter was for less than I make now, worse benefits, and is an executive position that doesn't have the authority to do what she wants done. There were also a lot of promises for a bonus later and my pick of the new positions that would be created.

Because, you know, "we're old friends and I really need your help."

I turned her down.
