I joined MGTOW not because of how most of you guys ended up in this community. I joined this community because I was given false hope by society. Before MGTOW, I used to be curious and tried all these different things in an effort to make it a hobby. I 'm an introverted guy, & I never had that much to look forward to compared to my peers. I also worried about not having a gf as most of my peers had a gf. It was hard back in the days of grammar/high school but it's much more difficult in college because I was on my own; my parents weren't there to help me. All my life and even in recent months, I felt like I was trying to impress women, especially with social media (hence why I deleted all my social media accounts last month). The breaking point happened was when I joined a group of people who seemed very social and encouraged me to be a part of their 'business' group in 2017. I even tried to recruit people I knew into the group. What I didn't know was that I was offered 'false hope' - it turned out to be a pyramid scheme. Once again, I'm introverted and I wanted something to look forward to and something useful to do. Also, I've never used due diligence before committing to something. I wasn't suspicious about what the scheme's motives are before committing to it. I didn't learn as I actually wanted to stick with them by joining two other 'pyramid schemes' to 'make money' for the pyramid scheme. I just couldn't get out of my own way, even after I was offered 'false hope'. In the most recent employment pyramid scheme run-in at an office building in my hometown (still in 2017) I felt like most people over there tried to put me down. There was one time where my fellow 'colleague' appeared to harshly denigrate me just for simply not opening the door (we were selling Direct Energy by going in to peoples' homes unauthorized). I appeared to make two sales to contribute to sticking with the 'pyramid scheme', even though it was literally pennies. I was brainwashed by groupthink. Once I found out that I was given 'false hope' it was too late. I had overdrafted my debit card and ended up with false promises. I then fell into a deep depression for the rest of that summer (and for a while).

I lacked confidence in myself, and was struggling internally. That same year, the #MeToo movement became popular, as well as a noticeable rise in false sexual harassment accusations. That was the second reason why I joined this community. It feels like I'm an accusation away from being sacked, especially from one of the top colleges in the country. Things didn't make sense to me anymore after that especially while I was reeling from being given 'false hope'. That was when my mood towards women shifted drastically. Even now, some things still don't make sense to me.

TL:DR; It was false hope that manifested into many other aspects of my life as well as what I'm getting from society in addition to outside circumstances (society is increasing becoming a clown world before my very eyes post-#MeToo) that turned me towards MGTOW. I didn't have to be in a relationship to witness it. I sensed it. When I grew up, it felt that the world I lived in felt normal to me. Not anymore. A huge positive is that I was wise and took a proactive measure in joining this community. Many people in this community join it in a 'reactive' move to what had just occurred (e.g. a false accusation). I can't blame them for that- it just happens. Society as the years go by (2020, 2021, etc.) will continue to get worse. It won't get better.
