if you are in a relationship I'd say you aren't really going your own way, even more if you live together or are married; you're going her way and your way together.

I do what I want, when I want, how I want, why I want, how I want. I don't have a woman who tries to control my time, activities, money, conversation, food, drink, people, etc. My time, money, life are mine to do as I please.

If she has any effect on what you do, who you see, when you do things, how you do things, how you spend your money, time, etc. you are not going your own way.

edit: since going my own way, I've had a few FWBs and many ONS, no other relationships with women.

I think that if you're talking about being in a monogamous relationship with a woman, sure, some MGTOWs do that. The big thing is to make sure not to formalize your relationship in the eyes of the state, or legally.

Living independently is the only way to make sure of that.
