I'm debt-free, am single, make 100K/yr, and I'm 30, but I only have 100K net worth and live with my mom. I live very frugally and hope to become FIRE in a few years from now.

Society obviously tries to brainwash us by telling us how we're miserable because it's good for business. If men feel they aren't muscular enough and/or don't have enough women in their lives, they'll be more likely to pay for gym membership and muscle milk. If people feel others don't treat them with enough respect, they'll spend money on nice clothes and cars, just to appear rich, even if it means going in debt. So society brainwashes us into thinking spending money=happiness

OTOH, not having money to the extent that you have to stay in a job you hate, can't pay off your debt, etc, probably sucks. Not having enough money to have the freedom to travel and/or work abroad is probably much worse than having money and the freedom to do those things

Moreover, when people say "money doesn't buy happiness", such as celebrities, monks, religious people, blue-pillers, etc, that seems to me like their following "slave morality". It's a term referred to by Nietzsche in which he mentioned how the founders of religions were often slaves and didn't have money/power, so they accused rich/powerful people as being "evil" and wanted "equality". Liberals often follow slave morality in how they demand equality and accuse rich people/men as being evil

I followed this slave morality and money doesn't equal happiness for most of my life, so even though I'm debt-free, I still often feel some anger/depression over how I made bad decisions when I was younger and as a result my net worth is way less than it could've been

What do you guys think?
