Functionally, I disagree in that I think it is important to reserve time in your life for retrospection. Given that much of the western world eases up this time of year, it's a good time to ease up and take a long, hard look at things. Your mission can survive a coulee weeks of breathing fresh air and making sure you are where you want to be with those you want to be with.

However, in terms of heath, I completely agree. There is a gnawing pathology when you look for excuses to gorge yourself and rot in your own bloated pre-corpse. Feasts for the commoners come from a time when it was a truly exceptional experience. These days almost anyone can gorge themselves on a daily basis. There is nothing special about it, but rather something completely wrong with it.

I on the other hand am looking forward to the holidays. I have a week off from work so I get to train every day, study for the GMAT, and catch up on my reading.

It’s funny, as soon as 24/7 gyms became a thing my Christmas present to myself has always been.... an empty gym! People always look at me weird when I say I lift on Christmas day. What’s not to like? Wake up, smash the gym with an empty weights room then smash some nutritious food all day, rinse and repeat for Boxing Day (UK we get that as holiday too). Best few days for working out.
