People don't seem to understand that the essence of what comedians do is look out for, highlight, and comment on absurdities.

Correct. Neeson freely admitted that in a low point in his life, spurred by the traumatic report of a violent rape to a close friend, he sank into the morass of seeing every person of color as the same and wanting to beat the ever loving shit out of one of them for revenge.

This wasn't him saying he ever thought that was right, or that he was happy with the whole thing, encouraged it in others, etc. What he was saying was, the concept of going around murdering people in some kind of revenge fantasy is actually a pretty dark thing and comes from a pretty dark place - and illustrated how dark it was by basically pointing to it coming from the same black pit that prejudice, violence, and so forth comes from.

It wasn't "bizarre" he was commenting on a movie he had just made about robotic revenge killing. He was trying to tell people to not identify with or cheer for that sort of thing because it comes from a really dark place.

But did the chattering leftists hordes say "wow, here's a guy who rose above the sectarian violence of his upbringing, and saw that he was capable of horrible racist thought and walked away." No. They could have turned it into a whole "check this out you skinhead, alt-right assholes, it's entirely possible to check yourself and realize that going out and beating the shit out of unrelated people out of rage is wrong"

But they didn't.

Instead, they completely fucked the dog by turning it into "Liam Neeson is RAAAAAAAAAAAAAACIST." And then calling for him never to work again.
