Hello, this is my first time posting.
I want to share with you the story about how my life has been affected by a false, preposterous #MeToo accusation back in November 2018.
I am 26 year old and I live in Chicago. In November, female acquaintance, which had been my classmate in high school and whose advances I had politely rejected in the past, posted a #MeToo tweet and in it, claimed she was sexually assaulted by a classmate in high school and mentioned my name, although she did not provide absolutely any details as to where and when I had allegedly bothered her; in the tweet.
Reminder she is truly uglier than Amy Schumer and was always the loud, obnoxious gossipper type, which may or may not have been the reason for my rejection of her. Which was very polite, as I said she's great and all but in the end "I just don't feel that way".
After I had noticed the tweet, I immediately panicked. I was extremely stressed, slowly realising my life might have been ruined.
After that, I got extremely angry. In fact, this was the biggest rage I have ever felt. I had not done anything wrong to any woman beforehand, and I was genuinely respectful towards everyone's intimacy up to that point when she accused me. And yet here I was, falsely accused of rape.
I had a heart-to-heart with my parents and sister and assured them I am completely innocent. After that, we found and contacted a very good lawyer and informed him what had happened. The lawyer said that in such cases it's often best to attempt striking a deal before going to court.
Two days later, I formally informed the woman that unless she signed a paper, in which she would have admitted to a lie and published it online, simultaneously deleting her claim in the tweet, I would take the case much further. I was sure I would win anyway - due to lack of any proof, any witnesses and the fact we had videos of me coming back after work each day - from the security cameras.
That woman kindly agreed to the ultimatum. Unsurprisingly.
I had actually been receiving insults and threats from some of my female "friends" after that bitch had published her claims for these two infamous days. They only stopped after the woman had admitted to lying.
All I have gained from all that monkey business is strong anxiety. Friends and family have been overwhelmingly supportive after the case was revealed to be a false claim.
But now I have developed an absolute paranoia, which makes it nearly impossible for me to talk to women I am not related to.
