I worked in an office for a service company. In the office, we have accounting, sales people, the vice president, and the secretary who is also HR. It's a small company where everyone is sharing a networked printer.

One day, the printer stops working. It turns out that the server it was connected to has blown out. I was working as a web developer for this company. I knew how to set up the computer to make it work over the network by simply installing the printer drivers onto each computer, simple for anyone who has set up a printer. I decided to help out as they outsource their IT to a company, where they would have to call in the guy to fix it.

The Women in the office decided to stop working and start bitching about the printer being down. "Oh, I can't so anything without the printer. The printer is what we need for this and that..." The stopped working, bitched for a while, and basically took it upon themselves to take a break.

The Men in the office kept working, saving their work. They knew that when I got the printer up and running, it would be back to work as normal, so they might as well get ready for when they can print. Maybe they had more faith in me to get it up and running.

I get the printer working, and the women try bitching a little more, but see that the men are printing on the printer. They start working then. The guys get their stuff done like every other day. The women are working at normal pace, and I guess don't care about the pace they get their work done.

Point is, the guys were still focused on meeting their quota, where the women seemed to have a free pass. This behavior by the women is what kills efficiency in businesses. They knew they could keep working, but chose not to, even though they had the same information as the guys did that I was going to get the printer back up.
