What do you all think of LinkedIn?

I use it because people seem to be interested in it during the hiring process, or if you work in recruiting. It mostly sits idle except for the occasional adding of connections.

I deem it worthless but just a thing that kind of exists as an extra pinpoint to corporations. "Oh, he has a LinkedIn? Must be a hard worker/well connected/builds bridges/etc." Bullshit but free brownie points.

I have it but I'm just disappointed at the bullshit I still see on the daily. It's not as bad as Facebook though.

It's social media for recruiters. I find it more annoying than Facebook in many ways.

In it's most basic (original) form, it was/is just an online resume -- from that it became a tool for a bit of "networking -- that is to say a way of keeping track of, and maintaining some contact with former coworkers.

Unfortunately, that second part has been somewhat "abused" -- in a sort of MySpace (remember that?) and FaceBook way -- by recruiters, sales types, scammers, etc.

That latter of course has also been "pushed" by the owners (originally it's own entity and now Microsoft), as they seek to monetize the content. Likewise, they've pushed a faux "news-feed" (which is largely not "news" by blatant promotional bullshit) as the centerpiece... personally I don't think that works anywhere near as well as many believe; but than again I'm not a sales-type, and am generally averse/immune to all of that shit... so wtf do I know.

I hear about people getting jobs on it, but I think it's a rarity.

Deleted it. Just another social media to show off your careers and stuff. Also it's a way for women to trap men who has the top careers.

Understandable... but for the most part they (probably) already have it anyway.

Doesn't surprise me, in fact it reminds me of the shopping scene from "Minority Report"
