I always saw her as a necessary evil for Tony. She can run his company for him so that he can focus on making gadgets and improving his tech, just like Bruce Wayne uses Lucius Fox to run Wayne Enterprises so Bruce can spend all his time being Batman.

I mean, it's not like she's actually in charge of anything, she just runs the day-to-day operations so that the money keeps flowing and Tony can make ever-more-badass suits. Tony could take everything back and run it himself if he had to, and he can use her as his physical and emotional release valve for when he wants to bust a nut or unload on her after a day beating up supervillains.

She seems to know her place and not cross any lines with him, and any exasperation she has with him is more or less justified because of his impulsiveness.

All-in-all, not the worst comic book girlfriend when you consider the other ones.

I seriously don't see any need for her character. The only real thing she did was push a button that he described to her when he told her to push it during his fight with Obadiah Stane. Any man could have done the same thing without the unnecessary hesitation. Some may say she saved his life against Aldrich Killian, but he could have better focused on fighting Killian if he wasn't distracted trying to save her after she got kidnapped by Killian. The bottom line is she's only in there to bring in women viewers, who would otherwise not see a movie series of this type.
