Some RPers teach that we need to instill "dread" to keep a girl interested. But this is, in my humble opinion, a misinterpretation of what's happening. You'd think being threatened with stoning or beheading would instill a little dread too but, as we know, hypergamy doesn't care.

One of the oft-mentioned blogs on Dread states:

> Women respond viscerally in their vagina area to unpredictability, mixed signals, danger, and drama in spite of their best efforts to convince themselves otherwise. Managing your relationship in such a way that she is left with a constant, gnawing feeling of impending doom will do more for your cause than all the Valentine’s Day cards and expertly performed tongue love in the world.

The author is clearly aware of the benefits of his suggested actions. But feelings of unpredictability, mixed signals, danger, drama, and impending doom are not the mechanics behind the results. Those feelings in isolation won't do any good. They're only side effects of his specific tactics to convey what really matters:

  1. You're pre-selected. It's why social circle game doesn't always require any game. It's why being married doesn't always require any game. It's why being a celebrity doesn't always require any game. Game is about convincing a girl you're pre-selected in the absence of "proof". We do that by behaving in ways only pre-selected men do (e.g. low lay count guys don't cold approach or break rapport or qualify or pass shit tests [her instincts are spot-on!]). But once you've convinced her of that, she'll eventually forget. It doesn't last forever. So when you flirt with her friends so it "gets back around to her" she's reminded that you are pre-selected. Ignoring phone calls for awhile and lying about it? Hamster reminds her you might be pre-selected. "Mention how skilled your Russian ex was at giving head" (common DHV story) reminds her that you're pre-selected. Cheating? Duh.

  2. You're ambitious and driven. So when she sees you going hard as fuck eating right, gyming, and staying on a rigid schedule, you're not instilling dread, you're just proving that you're that rare ambitious and driven guy. The starving artist and hustling salesman radiate these qualities too as they're constantly sharing stories and/or experiences that imply they're going places. Anyone in either of those worlds knows how endearing those men are. For women it's instinctual and much more intense though. I'd say this may be more of a provider indicator... Bill Gates probably wasn't swimming in it... but being both her alpha fucks and her beta bucks is certainly required for a happy relationship that lasts.

The problem is that overtime we get lazy and she eventually feels it as incongruence--we're not who she originally thought we were--and she feels betrayed. Hypergamy takes over and she does what's in her best interest. Unfortunately (for us), hypergamy is completely unconcerned with the fact we might just be depressed for a little while, or that it takes a little time to recover from our parents dying, or whatever. Some quality women do seem to try to help their man back to who she thought he was, but it's certainly not the undying loyalty we're accustomed to feeling for our "loved" ones. This is probably why RP is also so concerned with not sharing emotions. In reality, being vulnerable about your feelings is completely fine *as long as* the negative ones are accompanied by drive and ambition to overcome. While sharing negative emotions that she perceives have defeated you is a one way ticket to feelings of incongruence and betrayal.

This place is soaked in negativity for fair reasons. But this label and associated misinterpretation just make it worse for everyone. We don't have to cause women to feel all of these negative feelings consistently to get what we want. We just have to inconvenience them a little to remind them.
