wanted to study graphic design

Can still do it on your own.

I don't know what to do anymore, hence why I'm asking for advice on here.

Start with a list, indiscriminately add anything (even the obviously bad crap) for a week or so? Then start discriminating.

I've become interested in cooking recently, but I'm not particularly great at it

Practice. Eat what you cook to learn about WHAT's bad. That's just taste-wise - there is technical stuff also, of course. One of a zillion of available resources.

I just have this weird idea that if something I like becomes a job that I have to do every day, I'll end up hating it.

Imagine a fucked up idea that people are only prepared to pay you to get the less enjoyable shit done instead of them. A novel idea, I know, but, can you imagine if it was like that? If they did what they enjoyed and paid some1 to do the crappy part? No way, huh?

I don't have any grand goals for the future, like owning my own company or being some super successful businessman, if anything I'm really interested in living a minimalist lifestyle, so at least I have that decided for myself. But it's what I want to do for a living that I can't decide.

people need a grand goal often, a purpose. as protection to not get depressed. So find one, or multipule. One can create meaning or purpose in anything. Take time to find it. If needed, even go away for a few days (to a quit place, hotel, etc) with no distractions (like tv, phone, etc.) and think about this.

also, you confuse that these 2 things need to be in 1 thing: "do for a living" and "grand goal for the future". those aren't 2 things that need to be one thing.

also, stop woreshipping school/study; it's pretty shitty place often. Hustling in the outside world, is much better then being top (slave) student.

19 years old. Still a lot of time for you to discover yourself. Keep improving yourself and your skills until you find something you like or want to do. I understand the rejection sucks, but its part of life. What matters is how you deal with it.

Whatever else you do, start investing, even if you have little to invest with. All of us middle aged folks wish we had done so in our late teens. Try not to fall into the trap that so many young folks fall into of blowing their disposable income on alcohol/partying/travel. Instead, put the miracle of compound interest to work for your future. It doesn't seem worthwhile if you have little to put in. But that's mistaken. The trick is putting it in and leaving it there.

The thing I’ve learned is that society is always trying to tell you what to be. We are conditioned to seek the answers to our life questions outside of ourselves.

Sometimes the best answers come from within. You just have to listen.

Just find anything to do man, you do realize that a job is but a mean and you could change your career later in life don't you? Don't be a perfectionist, good enough is OK.

I feel like it'd be a waste if I didn't major in something art related. But to be honest, I don't think I've enjoyed creating art for a long time now, it just became something I had to do for school assignments.

It seem you have a drive to create something, be it art or food. Cooking is just a mean to satisfy your creative drive and unlike art, it can taste good and involve moving your body more than art.

My advice is you just find some low stress job that you are decently competent to do. You have at least 40+ years ahead and changing career is always an option. Just make money and live minimally, you are afraid of workplace stress if you choose wrong or the job become boring later on.

I say it's all in your mind, you want a job that allow you to enjoy doing it? Both art and cooking fit your bill. As long as you make decent money and don't waste them on unnecessary stuff, you are set for an enjoyable career. Well, that's unlikely to happen but it could. Your job will become a grind at some point, you just have to deal with it. But at least it won't be as stressful if you live minimally.

You can learn graphic design on the web now. It’s almost not worth it to go to school for it. Many places are trying to not pay people in the creative field. Not to deter you. It’s a great field. College cost almost not worth it. Plenty of young women though

It's money down the drain. You're going to be worse off with the debts, and most graduates have a worthless piece of paper that doesn't get them employment.

you can freely audit many courses at prestigious colleges (MIT, Harvard, Berkely) and while not paying a cent, learn what you need to know.

a degree is nothing compared to competence.
some might say degrees in this day and age are detrimental to your happiness.
