It's Sunday night, I'm about 2-3hrs from going to bed to wake up on time for work tomorrow. So what's a better time of reflecting on the weekend filled with TRP material being realized?
Grand TLDR: My mom prove hamsters are very much real, dad turned out to be a born RP, and I was gifted a can of high quality rust remover.
Friday Texting my mom about life back home, studying abroad and in an internship for another week texting the fam was the least I can do. One topic leads to another, and she mentions she is starting a new diet on Monday. I ask, why wait? You got a beautiful Saturday ahead, she gives me the excuse of "we're going to so and so's house tomorrow". Faster than I know it's clear that she kinda has the motivation but not the discipline and no matter how hard I pushed I could get her to admit that (sperged out, yes, but it's mom) so I asked how my brother was doing. Little shit looked like present day Kurdistan terrain with all the landmines on his face. Turns out his medication worked, and he grew taller but also has a beer gut (kid's 14). My dad, even though he turned 50 this year, still is on top of his physical game. Still plays ball with his boys, still picks his business trips with hotels with gyms etc. Side Note: this guy founded his own company when he was 28 and now he can afford to send his older son to college to USA. (I can and intend to do a post on fathers in general, lmk if that seems interesting). Nature of his business he's rarely home, and my mom completely turned my little bro into a BB, not unlike I was maybe a year ago max - with the whole "treat girls nicely and you'll go far" and the endless supply of video games and junk food. I asked how my dad was doing (still flexing that RP knowledge), and kinda left it at that.
TLDR: My mom turned my brother into a typical Billy, while proving AWALT and the hamster. Not in a cheating manner (at least I know of) but basically the rest.
Saturday I called them because I had some time when I knew they'd be awake. 8hr difference between your parents is not too pleasant. Anyway, I call mom and she says they're on their way back from their friend's place with my dad driving. I basically rehash what my mom said to me to them (she had me on speakerphone) and all my dad did was agree and say he wished I'd come home safely and quickly to accompany him on his gym trips and whatnot. Guy's tired from working all day only to come home to an old and fat wife (sorry mom) and a pussy of a son - he didn't explicitly state this in the call but I could tell from the things he said. So you can bet your ass I'm looking forward to go home and be with him even if for 2 months.
Sunday This is where TRP happens the most, or at least the one I remember in greater detail because all this happened a few hours ago. On Thursday this girl I was kinda seeing from school texts me inviting to a car show in her town (20 min drive from where I'm staying). I did not know she was into cars (she wasn't but knew I was) but I was like "eh good cars and a HB9 how bad can this be". Sunday comes, I get there and boy was the show a fucking blast, met some nicely retired people with insane cars. As the event ends she says she was going to call her dad to pick her up and I said I'd drop her off as her suburb is kinda on the way to mine from the event. We go there and she realizes her dad might be home so starts panicking, saying shit like "oh he's very aggressive if he doesn't like you, he'll ask questions etc its best if you dont go" then she says "im curious to see what'll happen if you meet him". I'm on the edge because I'm not on the mood to meet any parents, a dad at that either. She says that he always talks about some tools and that he has a '97 M3 so I'm game, I figured if I apply TRP knowledge in dealing with people (read: being a man) that I'd be fine. I said I'd get out and meet him just for the shits. Getting dad's approval isn't on my list but I figured the worst that can happen is the guy plainly shits on me and I lose a FWB, boo hoo.
Anyway I pull up in the driveway, and introduce myself to this older looking man enjoying a beer on his porch. It's also raining so I said how nice the paint on the volvo's out on the driveway looks. One thing leads to another and I say I love BMW's and that "the last proper BMW was the E36, maybe E46 if you stretch it" (which isn't a completely true statement or plain wrong either) and he goes "I have an E36 M3 in the garage, want to see it?" and goes on to give a tour of his garage which was actually pretty good. As I'm heading out, I tell the girl "he's not as bad as you said he was" and he yells from the other room "I heard that but I'll let it slide" which was funny to say the least.
I come home to get a text from the guy I was going to see his E46 M3 in Laguna Seca Blue. That car was my dream car when I was 12 and even though times changed I'd love to make my young self proud. He texted me his address and I go there, the stunning car is waiting for me on the driveway along with his wife and their dog. As I'm telling him the details of what can go wrong on these cars and he says "yeah here's the receipt" the wife jumped in saying "the price is increasing with each word haha!" She asked me if I wanted to drive it instead of the guy but I didn't care who asked the question, I wanted to make my today self and 12 year old self proud and happy. As I'm driving he makes small convo like where are you from, what do you do etc it turns out this soyboy works on app dev. The text earlier was "there's 5 people that want to see the car so I'm not selling for a single cent less than listed". The car's pretty solid actually, I did not expect it for the price. Anyway, as I pull into the driveway I ask him "ok so if 6 including myself is interested but you've had the ad on CList for a month what is wrong with the car" and he breaks down to the nut and bolt of the stuff that's wrong with it, only after I gave him a 15-20 sec silence to his "well I wasn't ready to sell it" Nothing was major from the list so I said "my heart agrees with the car but I need my brain to do so too, let's meet next Saturday for an inspection. If along the way someone comes and gives you a check i don't mind but let me know". For those who don't know the E46 is plagued with subframe issues which can cost upwards of $2-3k. I also managed to talk him down a grand just based on the cosmetics of the car, if nothing major is broken but it's not 100% mechanically either I feel like I can get a bargain as I highly doubt there's 5 others lined up to buy the car.
TLDR: Even though this is stated throughout the sub multiple times a week, TRP isn't just about laying the pipe but you can apply these skills into real life. Even though this wasn't the first weekend I realized this for myself, it was definitely one that came in handy. I made friends with cool older gentlemen with dank cars, met a FWB's chill dad and might just be making my 20 year old current self and 12 year old self happy and proud at the same time.
