Is it that easy to open a credit card in the USA, just with the ID?

Here in a shithole of an EU country I had to go in person at a bank, show my ID and several tax related documents just to file my request. When the card was approved it was mailed and I had to be the one who would receive it in person, after that I had to call the bank for them to unlock the card.

The great thing is where I live is that instead of investing in a sovereign wealth fund like that of Norway that would have seen the government accumulate billions of dollars to pay for pensions, the people instead were spooked by a political cartoon that featured dancing cossacks and now they're basically saying the younger generations should pay for the boomers healthcare and their retirement too.
