Same here, except sometimes I had her family in tow. It was drama that occasionally escalated into shout fests. For instance, her mother wouldn't eat in diners because she thought they were too dirty, her father didn't like Italian food, when her twin sister was pregnant, she couldn't eat Chinese food because her pregnancy was supposedly "high risk" (then again, I'm not a OBGYN, but because I lived five hours from her and my ex brought everyone here driving, I suppose her sister's pregnancy wasn't high risk enough to where she was able to go on long distance pleasure drives. Go figure), if they brought kids, we had to look for a place with a kid friendly menu, etc.

So usually (definitely NOT a coincidence ;-)) we ended up eating at an expensive steakhouse where everyone ordered the 1/2 steak, wild rice, lobster tail, and baked potato, along with beer. And as is usual with women, they never finish their me, so I had to ask for take out boxes. And guess who footed the bill? Seriously, sometimes it was up to $150 total, and I would end up pretty broke and of course, a few weeks later, when I couldn't make the trip back home, my ex would berate me on how come I was broke, why I'm not more careful with money, how we were going to get married, and she actually wanted to manage my accounts, even thug she herself was in debt and it was her parents who were keeping her financially alive.

And going back to the pregnant sister, again, it's amazing how her pregnancy wasn't high risk enough for her to be eating steak. Then again, when she gave birth, she had complications to where she had to have a C section performed. Maybe she shouldn't have had the baked potato.

In short, if a modern woman claims to be "family oriented", beware because she'll orient her whole family towards your wallet. Especially ethnic girls. They'll claim it's "cultural."
