There is some validity to this. I am currently living with my father, aged 67 and battling stage 4 colon / bowel cancer. He requires someone to live with and assist him. My ex - wife had many complications from diabetes and the doctor recommended she never live alone. ( Think diabetic coma here ) I remember being a teenager and being upset when I heard that my grandmother fell in her home and laid on the floor for three days before someone discovered her.

I think if your reasonably healthy and living alone this is not an issue ; particularly if you have friends or family or co - workers or neighbors who you can look out for you somewhat. There is inherent risk in everything and I believe the daily rewards of living and being alone far outweigh the small chance of something catastrophic happening.

Try to avoid potentially unsafe jobs at home unless you have a buddy over to watch out, and just generally stay safety-conscious. There shouldn't be too much that can happen.

I live alone and have some friends that will call me if they haven't seen or heard from me recently, just to check up. I never worry. I keep a shotgun by my desk, just in case.

I've been on the death bed a couple of times. I was content to check out if it were to happen. I have to admit that it might have been much more difficult if I had been surrounded by loved ones. Fortunately, they were thousands of miles away.

I've seen others who live terrified of death.

The way I see it death can and should be your closest ally. It provides one of the strongest catalysts for living a full life, insofar as one remembers its inevitability.

I say: good! If I have a heart attack, fuckin' let me die, don't keep me on life support for a week in the hospital before it finally dawns on everyone that nothing can be done and THEN withdraw care $80,000 later.

Went through that with my mom, it achieved absolutely nothing.

Being afraid to be alone is for women. Men are truly strong and independent. If we want to be around people that's why there's friends and family. We're all essentially alone anyway since we are all in our own heads to varying degrees. I can't share my deepest thoughts or feelings just like someone else wouldn't be able to do the same with me. This whole idea that we constantly need to be around people and have companionship otherwise we'll end up "alone" is just ridiculous.

My family will always be there for me. This I'm sure of, so I don't really worry about it. If I find a good woman then I'm good. If I don't find one I'm also good, because I'll always have people I can rely on to bail me out of trouble.
