Right off the bat, I'm going to tell you that I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this at this time, however I wanted to get some of your opinions brothers.

To cut to the chase, one of my friends has been dealing with stuff in his life at the moment. We are quite young (I'm 20 and he is 19) and it's mostly uni related stuff and shit regarding not being able to move out, his parents controlling his life and him having no money.

I've tried to help him for quite some time, I've given him advice on what to do to get out of his predicament and I've even got him a job offer. He has refused to take my advice/accept the job as he doesn't want to get paid minimum wage. Note I am not angry that he did not take the job, after all it was just a offer and i cannot force him to do stuff he does not want in his free time, summer time at that.

I've noticed that his attitude is getting more and more bitter; as for example one of the hobbies which we both share is video games, I've noticed that he is getting more and more toxic within these video games and that he accepts less and less blame for his actions. The main thing I'm referring to is the fact that he is heading down a rabbit hole where he refuses to accept responsibility.

I wholeheartedly love my friend and want to help him get through his though situation and I feel as though he does not want to cooperate with me or take action to better his situation, academically, financial or just mood/mental health wise. I know the whole 'You can lead a horse to the water but can't make him drink' jazz but I feel as though I am betraying my friend if I give up on him. The main reason I am even writing this is because I feel like it's draining on me to keep supporting him as I feel like I am fighting a losing battle.

What would you guys do regarding his situation? Note that he pretty much doesn't have a relationship with his parents, hence his angst and bitterness. I've tried to understand that and not use it against him, however I can see he has very little trust in people as a result of his broken family bonds and it's getting harder and harder to convince him to try and change something in his life.

Anyways bros, thanks for the read and sorry for the lengthy post.

TLDR: My younger friend with a horrible home relationship is looking for ways to better his life. He is becoming bitter and depressed and is reluctant to accept help/attempt change. Do i follow him down the rabbit hole and try to support him even though it is emotionally draining or do I go my own way?
