Consider a poker metaphor:

She bluffs - you call her bluff - no she's fucked, her plan didn't work out.

In more concrete terms:

She rejects you, which can mean that she really is not interested anymore, but it can also be a (shit)test to see, wether you've been trained/indoctrinated well enough to consider yourself worthless enough to have to fight/struggle for her attention/affection since you have no other perceived options.

In the later case, she is basically expressing a demand for more attention/commitment from your side and putting it out as a "take it or leave it" deal. She does so, because she is certain that "leave it" can not possibly be an option. Thus the "bluff" metaphor above.

When you then say "OK, fine. I'll take the leave option." her plan fails and she has no one but her own lack of judgement to blame, that's why she goes nuts. She can't stand to take the responsibility for her failed plan and proceeds to hamster and project it onto you and then take it out on you.

In TRP-lingo "calling the bluff" is called a "power-flip", so it's a well known technique.

Its happened to me many times. They keep coming back over time though because I remain cool and friendly so they don't really have a reason to hate me.
