Over the past decade, I have noticed both nationally and internationally an increase in female police officers. Some of these officers are incredibly petite, and hardly impose a threatening physique. Others are overweight to the point where I question their ability to run and engage in the more physical aspects of their job. Men are the physically stronger gender, so in the past they have traditionally been overrepresented in the police force. Nowadays I can see that the fem-centric attitude of “We can do that too!” has led to females being included in occupations that they may not be entirely suited for. How can a petite young female officer with no muscle mass subdue an armed criminal, or more realistically, impose a domineering presence in the eyes of those who would do wrong? As for the overweight female police officers, I question their ability to engage in hand-to-hand conflict if this is needed, or as mentioned, physically pursue criminals. Has the desire to include more women in police forces led to decreased standards in the pre-entrance physical examinations? Where there were once more stringent physical requirements to enter the police force (for instance, achieving a certain score in a test of aerobic fitness such as the ‘Beep Test’), this does not seem to be the case anymore. Is the increase in females in police forces worldwide an example of how fem-centrism is now defying common sense?
