For a lot of people it's a symbol of maturity and progression in life. No matter how shitty or your life may be or great your life is for many people it's a symbol of " promotion". I think for men in particular we fall into that " It's time to Man up / Grow Up / settled down and create a family and haven" type thought process.

The truth is instead of creating a secure environment for the people you love , marriage right now is the easiest way to make long lasting mistakes with someone who won't care where you are in the world in 3 years.

Hebest an worst thing about marriage is that anyone can do it. Some men are desperate and thing it's insurance to keep a woman in their lives, others have reached a milestone and want to cement their relationship and success as the beginning of the " new phase" of their life, " still others just need to feel special to someone... ANYONE and marriage is an easy way to put a bandaid on a fuckup mentality and feel like they've grown.

In short lots of reasons , the thing is though the feelings that encourage marriage are always temporary and the payoff for engaging those feelings is also temporary but can be much much longer
