Second year of college right now and looking at my old high school's current students, all the boys are just worried about getting girls as if not getting one means the end of the world.
Recently the high school hired a psychiatrist to help students with emotional problems. A lot of them used to be about problems surviving AP classes and dealing with grades and family matters. Now most 'problems' are "Why can't I get a girlfriend I'm soo lonely"? and the girls go "Why won't these hot guys notice me I'm so cute but they aren't looking"?
In high school people are still trying to find out who they are and what they want to do. Plus, people can make huge changes to their lives so that person you though would be completely reasonable to you could find a different interest. Worrying about being a chick magnet is the least of your problems now.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't work since people have been brainwashed to think that having a girlfriend is supposed to be a sign of "manning up" or "being a real gentleman". Who knows...maybe that's why we get the "typical college student" who barely does anything productive.
