I don't know what all is involved in the name "net neutrality" these days since you know government likes to name things different from what they are sometimes. But I can tell you this: If my provider starts trying to charge more for streaming, I'll just cancel. And if everyone does the same, they'll be forced to straighten up.

I see net neutrality as a necessary regulation. The internet service providers are pretty few but large in number and hold monopolies over most areas. Without it, they will look at usage statistics and start throttling certain services after a while.

It's like the trickle down effect, giving big companies freedom and tools sounds good but they will abuse it to pocket more money after a brief period of competition or trying to set up a good image.

No, that's not what it does. It actually accomplishes the opposite effect by putting the government into the seat of defining what is acceptable and what isn't.

Net neutrality in my opinion is the de facto standard.

Subscribers should be able to do whatever they want (as long as they do not technically damage another system) on their connection without hindrance.

late to this, though wanted to say..

we have neutrality, for cable, phones..

..and these are metered, or force you to purchase things you don't need, along with what you are after..

companies can play games, sure, though the lines they use, in most cases, the guv already has their hand in the public rules, given the transmission lines are on public property..

if we went the route of net neutrality, i would expect packages, similar to phones, where you pay for basic, middle or high end, where the price goes up dramatically, and your package has limits, as in ~50gb, 100gb, 200gb, per month..

so far the internet, aside of very rural areas, it functions just fine.. the idea companies could do this that and the other, is very much like the arguments where females have no rights, (which they did/do), though they create addendum rights, for problems, that could occur, then claim success, given there never was a problem.. nn would allow them to meter you, and you would no longer have choices, except what package and how much, you're willing to pay.. plus anonymity would be a thing of the past.. you would eventually be provided an ip address, (like a phone number), where this would be used, anytime you use the internet..

like some have implied, in this thread, we already have actual neutrality.. guv, wants to control this now..

i take the, if it's not broken, no need to fix it, route..
