Other than tennis and the Women’s World Cup, I don’t believe there are any women’s sports that turn a profit. The ones that exist are all subsidized by male sports.
Almost all sports organizations that involve women in any capacity have no choice but to subsidize women’s earnings due to public relations. It would be business suicide if they came out and said the women don’t make any money so we’ll pay them peanuts.
The best thing to do is keep your competition male only. The PGA is a separate organization than the LPGA and have resisted starting a women’s tournament for years. The major sports leagues in North America are similar. I believe EPL teams in the UK have fucked up and started women’s clubs attached to the main clubs. In a few years there will be outrage that the women of Manchester United or Arsenal are only making x amount per year compared to the men. Never mind the empty stadiums, lack of sponsors, and non existent tv viewership. They are fighting the misogyny and stereotypes that exist in the sporting world and need support. The clubs will be pressured by sponsors and they will give in and pay them out of pocket.
Any sports league that starts a female division due to PR will regret it when expenses start spiraling up with no profitability in sight.
