Something I've always found quite amusing is how oft in divorces assets are divided (not based on contribution) and one partner will receive alimony, child support, near or full custody, etcetera. The funny thing is that many of my colleagues are divorcees who received all the benefits of it, and noticeably they are incredibly miserable being wholly responsible for themselves. Especially the ones who became single mums from their legal fiascos seem incredibly stressed and miserable all the time. Moreover they complain to me about how their dating lives are ruined and how they are under constant pressure from their home and work. They tell me how no one wants to date a single mum in their 40s. I play psychologist and listen mostly because I have not much else to do at work, but their stories are incredibly silly and amusing as well. Something I'm hesitant to ask them though I wonder a lot, is why they wanted custody of their offspring. I understand wanting to seize wealth and property (unearned and earned), but I can not for the life of me understand why they saddled themselves with domestic responsibilities they could have dumped on someone else (the state included).
