You sound like a smart guy. Sometimes smart people tend to over analyze everything. It sounds to me like that's what you're doing. Sometimes you need to take action without doing a critical analysis to discover all of the details or formulate a plan. Self confidence and self worth result from a clear conscience. If you are satisfied in your own heart and mind that you've done your best and achieved most of your goals in a given area, you don't need approval or validation by anyone else. How do you unlock the courage to walk away from shit you know doesn’t do you any good? By realizing there is no lock on the courage. You just walk away and don't look back. The only memory you should carry with you is whatever it was that caused you to walk away in the first place. As for quotes, there are some good lines from “Desiderata”, a 1927 prose poem by Max Ehrmann (1872–1945.) If you're interested, Google “Desiderata” and it will bring up sites with the entire text of the poem. A few of the lines in it are not compatible with my personal beliefs, but over all there is much sound wisdom in it. Good luck.

DON'T DO THIS! I got myself landed in an abusive relationshit thanks to this "advice"... never again.

Waiting until you've done a critical analysis to discover all of the details or formulate a plan before you walk away from crap that you know is hurting you is stupid. You landed in an abusive relationship thanks to that advice? It works both ways. I stayed in an abusive relationship too long because I spent too much time over analyzing things that I should have considered irrelevant. Maybe you misunderstood. So, to clarify, my proposition by way of analogy, if you put your hand on a hot stove, you don't wait until you have third degree burns before taking your hand off.

if so many people misunderstand this then don't you think it's simply bad advice?

It seems you're the only one who is misunderstanding me. So I'll try it again in simpler terms. If a woman is giving a man shit and criticism, he is far better off bailing out without a plan and not knowing where he is going to land, rather than staying in and trying to figure out why she is giving him shit and criticizing him, or trying to appease her. A man should never allow his confidence and self-worth to be determined or influenced by any woman, be it his wife, girlfriend, mother, supervisor, coworker, etc.

I understood that, but it seems you didn't understand me.
to most non-normies: stop overanalyzing everything = jump head first in all kinds of shit
