In my previous job I remember us having two offices, well more like one office separated by a plaster wall in the middle. That because the company had just expanded and needed a bigger office so they rented additional space and converted the old storage room into a second office of equal size and similar layout.

Anyway, the new part of the office was mostly empty and I just loved sitting there because it was quieter than the old part of the office where most people sat. We were two guys sitting in the new part then this girl came along.

She lasted barely two weeks then went to the boss and requested to sit in the crowded area or she would quit. The boss accepted and once she was there her productivity diminished consequently, she spent most of her time gossiping with the other girls.

There were also guys sitting in the old area but they were being productive while the girls would mostly gossip and do very little work.

It's not the only occurence either, I have seen it happen many times. They pretend to be strong and independent yet they are lost if they don't belong to the group. For reminder, in-group/out-group is a very primitive social concept displayed by animals, and that is where women stand.
