Good morning, MGTOW brothers and thank you reading:
I'd like to hear from you all regarding manhood. After all, we are MEN who have chosen to go their own way and in doing so, we shun ideologies that have been indoctrinated in us since birth. As a community that embraces our internal diversity, we see members share their anecdotal experiences from every ethnicity, socioeconomic background, education level, etc. This sub is a safe place for many men around the world because our views are seen for what they are: fact and truth.
I read somewhere that "he who goes through no hardship builds no character," and I'd like to hear you chime in on this subject. Who are you today and who do you see yourself becoming? For our esteemed elders, could you reflect on the traits of masculinity that distinguish yourself in success, business and personal relationships? What hobbies or habits have you picked up since going your own way and what personal qualities were you unhappy with and how did you change them?
Jim Rohn has a great audio book called Cultivating an Unshakable Character. In it, he says that human nature is like a fluid because it seeks the path of least resistance. I see this all around me in my family and friendships. Those who seek the path of least resistance become monuments of mediocrity, going nowhere quick. A man's younger years are essential to developing discipline, an indomitable iron will and mastering his craft or trade. It is in his solitude, his failures and his lowest moments that he finds his truest self and awakens that innate potential. If you commit this time to low-quality people, male or female, then that is what you will become. Sometimes in going our own way, we find that we cannot take our old habits, friends or family with us...Sad but true, as I am realizing on the eve of my 25th birthday. Having my own level of excellence, I believe in what I am doing and where I am going.
Part of cultivating your manhood IS going your own way such that you discover (or rediscover) yourself. How can one listen to that inner voice if you always have someone else whispering in your ear or nagging you about what you should or shouldn't be doing because that is what a "real man does." Note that the strategies of women (and weak men) are seeped in subversion, for example using shame or ridicule to twist our proverbial arms into following their desires.
A steadfast, resolute man has a strong voice, internal and external. He maintains composure, dignity and frame by resisting the Circean call of the siren-woman, despite its deep and moist allure. (The Odyssey by Homer).
You must suffer with purpose, endeavoring ever closer to your goals. Sometimes that means waking up at 3am when you want to sleep, or sacrificing a social life, so that you can work or study. Your friends will call you crazy and your girlfriend is gonna leave you. Someone on here said: "there is a difference between 'being alone' and 'being lonely.'" Part of MGTOW is becoming your own best friend, in a sense, such that you are never truly lonely even though you may be by yourself. Do not fear individualism, because it mandates that you face those less-than-pleasant demons you've been carrying around and making peace with your past, whatever that may be. Do not drown out your inner voice with low-effort, low-reward pursuits or activities, even if it means dealing with depression, fear, shame, or all those icky emotions we shy away from as humans.
We let this fear of never wanting to be lonely control us: staying in directionless relationships, friends with those who do not love us, jobs that do not challenge us; all for the sake of saying I have a girlfriend/wife, I have a job or I have friends, anything to not feel like a loser, essentially. Get a pet dog if you are so inclined. Animals are loyal - they have integrity and character. You'll be much happier and fulfilled in the long run, as you go your own way.
Have a great week!
